Facet for calcaneonavicular part of bifurcate ligament

Facies articularis partis calcaneonavicularis ligamenti bifurcati

Definition

The facet for the calcaneonavicular part of bifurcate ligament is located on the infero-antero-lateral aspect of the articular surface of the talus’s head.

Just remember that the bifurcate ligament is positioned on the lateral aspect of the talo-calcaneonavicular joint. It consists of two limbs: the calcaneonavicular and calcaneocuboid ligaments. The base of this Y-shaped ligament attaches to the calcaneum, while the limbs attach to the outer and inner aspects of the navicular and cuboid respectively. Due to its unique position, the calcaneonavicular part reinforces and supports the lateral aspect of the talocalcaneonavicular joint. A small facet on the lateral side of the talus’s head allows connection with the calcaneonavicular part of the bifurcate ligament.
