Definition
The foramen venosum, sometimes referred to as the emissary sphenoidal foramen or the foramen of Vesalius, is located at the skull’s base, nestled between the foramen ovale and the scaphoid fossa. Within the cranial cavity, it opens up between the foramen ovale and the foramen rotundum. This foramen allows a small vein known as the sphenoidal vein to pass from the cavernous sinus to the pterygoid venous plexus.
