Medial tubercle
Tuberculum mediale
- Related terms: Medial tubercle (Talus)
Definition
The medial tubercle is a small bony projection on the posterior process of the talus. It, along with the lateral tubercle, forms a groove for the flexor hallucis longus tendon. The medial tubercle also serves as an attachment point for the posterior component of the medial (or deltoid) ligament, known as the posterior tibiotalar ligament. This ligament connects the medial malleolus of the tibia to the medial tubercle of the talus. For more information on the posterior process and its lateral and medial tubercles, visit this link: Posterior process of talus.
