The palm is the anterior, or volar, aspect of the hand. It stretches from the distal wrist crease to the bases of the fingers, flanked by the fleshy thenar (thumb side) and hypothenar (little finger side) eminences.

This region is characterized by its thick, hairless skin, which is firmly attached to the underlying palmar aponeurosis. This tough, triangular fibrous sheet protects deeper structures and compartmentalizes the palm.

Key anatomical components of the palm include the flexor tendons (flexor digitorum superficialis and profundus) and their protective synovial sheaths. The superficial palmar arch, mainly from the ulnar artery, supplies blood, while digital neurovascular bundles provide innervation and vasculature to the fingers. The palm also houses crucial intrinsic muscles like the lumbricals, palmar and dorsal interossei, and adductor pollicis, along with parts of the thenar and hypothenar muscle groups, which are vital for fine motor control.

Sensory input to the palm comes from palmar cutaneous branches of the median and ulnar nerves. A high concentration of sensory corpuscles within the aponeurosis gives the palm its remarkable tactile sensitivity.
