Perirenal fat capsule

Capsula adiposa renis

  • Synonym: Perinephric fat

Definition

Antoine Micheau

The kidney and its vessels are imbedded in a mass of fatty tissue, termed the perirenal fat capsule (adipose capsule), which is thickest at the margins of the kidney and is prolonged through the hilum into the renal sinus.

The perirenal fat capsule is localized inside the renal fascia, opposite to the pararenal fat body that is localized posteriorly outside the posterior layer of the renal fascia.
