Posterior rim of acetabulum

Margo posterior acetabuli

  • Synonym: Posterior acetabular margin

Definition

Antoine Micheau

The posterior rim of the acetabulum is the bony margin forming the posterior boundary of the acetabular cavity. It is composed of the posterior aspect of the ischium and extends from the 10 to 7 O'clock parts. The posterior rim is covered by the acetabular labrum, a fibrocartilaginous structure that deepens the socket and contributes to hip stability.

The posterior rim is adjacent to the ischial spine.
