Definition

The prevascular space or anterior junctional area represents the junction areas where the two lungs approximate each other and by the apposition of the visceral and parietal pleura of the lungs with intervening mediastinal fat.The anterior junctional area lies anterosuperior to the aorta and pulmonary artery and is also known as the prevascular sapce.

When this space is thin, the interface of the prevascular space with right and left lung forms the anterior junction line on AP chest x-Ray.
