Pterygoid tuberosity

Tuberositas pterygoidea

Definition

The pterygoid tuberosity is a roughened area on the inner surface of the mandible, specifically located near the angle on the medial side. This feature is found near the junction where the body and the ramus of the mandible meet. The pterygoid tuberosity serves as the attachment site for the medial pterygoid muscle, one of the muscles involved in mastication or chewing.
