Pyloric antrum

Antrum pyloricum

Definition

Antoine Micheau

The pyloric antrum is the proximal segment of the pyloric part of the stomach.

The pyloric antrum begins at the distal end of the body of the stomach and ends at the the pyloric canal.

The pyloric antrum measures 2 cm and is wider than the pyloric canal and contains mucus-secreting cells and gastrin-secreting endocrine cells (G CELLS).

The pyloric antrum has few folds, disappearing when the stomach becomes distended.
