Right inguinal region

Regio inguinalis dextra

  • Latin synonym: Inguen dextrum
  • Synonym: Right groin; Right iliac region

Definition

Antoine Micheau

The right inguinal region is defined anatomically as the area of the lower right anterior abdominal wall, immediately superior to the inguinal ligament and lateral to the pubic tubercle. It is bounded medially by the lateral edge of the rectus abdominis muscle, inferiorly by the inguinal ligament, and laterally by the anterior superior iliac spine. This region contains the structures of the inguinal canal, including the spermatic cord in males and the round ligament in females, and is clinically significant as the site for inguinal hernias and other groin pathologies.
