The sublingual caruncle (sublingual papilla) is a small mucosal elevation located on either side of the base of the lingual frenulum on the floor of the mouth, just in front of the sublingual fold. It contains the opening of the submandibular duct (Whartons duct) and receives drainage from the major sublingual duct.
