Suprahyoid region

Regio suprahyoidea

Definition

Antoine Micheau

The suprahyoid region is the area of the neck located above the level of the hyoid bone. It encompasses the soft tissue spaces and structures situated superior to the hyoid, including the floor of mouth, oral cavity, and the oropharynx. The region contains several key muscles—specifically, the mylohyoid, geniohyoid, digastric (anterior and posterior bellies), and stylohyoid—which are collectively referred to as the suprahyoid muscles.
