Definition

IMAIOS

The tibiocalcaneal ligament is one of the major components of the superficial layer of the medial collateral (deltoid) ligament complex of the ankle. It originates from the anterior colliculus of the medial malleolus of the tibia and inserts onto the sustentaculum tali of the calcaneus.

This ligament runs vertically and is typically the longest and one of the thickest fascicles within the superficial deltoid ligament complex.

Its primary function is to provide medial stability to the ankle, particularly resisting excessive eversion and valgus tilting of the hindfoot.
