Definition

The tibionavicular ligament is the most anterior component of the superficial layer of the deltoid ligament complex of the medial ankle. It originates from the anterior colliculus of the medial malleolus of the tibia and inserts onto the dorsomedial aspect of tuberosity of the navicular bone and immediately behind this they blend with the medial margin of the plantar calcaneonavicular ligament (forming the tibiospring ligament).

Anatomical studies consistently identify the tibionavicular ligament as one of the constant fascicles of the deltoid ligament, along with the tibiospring and tibiocalcaneal ligaments in the superficial layer, and the tibiotalar ligament in the deep layer.

The tibionavicular ligament plays a role in stabilizing the medial aspect of the ankle and contributes to the support of the medial longitudinal arch.
