Regio vertebralis

Definition
The vertebral region refers to the different regions of the back in the area of the vertebral column. The vertebral column is divided into several regions based on anatomical and functional characteristics. These regions include:
1. Cervical Region: This consists of the first seven vertebrae (C1-C7) and supports the head and neck.
2. Thoracic Region: This includes the next twelve vertebrae (T1-T12) and is associated with the rib cage, providing attachment points for the ribs.
3. Lumbar Region: This comprises the five vertebrae (L1-L5) below the thoracic region and supports much of the body's weight.
4. Sacral Region: This consists of five fused vertebrae (S1-S5) that form the sacrum, which connects the spine to the pelvis.
5. Coccygeal Region: This includes the four fused vertebrae that form the coccyx or tailbone.
