Definition

The foot is the terminal portion of the pelvic limb which bears weight and allows locomotion. The skeleton of the foot consists of three parts: the tarsus, metatarsus, and phalanges.

In some species, the foot (plural: feet) presents subdivisions that are similar to the ones of the hand: tarsus, metatarsus and fingers. But although the fingers bend in the same direction than the ones of the hand, the tarsus closes in dorsal direction while the carpus bends in palmar direction.
