Body parts

Partes corporis

Definition

Anne-Sophie Emeric

The main parts of the body are classified according to their location and function.

Here is a brief description of each part:

  • Head is the anterior part of the body, containing the brain and the sensory organs (eyes, ears, nose, mouth);

  • Cranium is the bony structure of the head, housing and protecting the brain and the main sensory organs;

  • Neck is the segment connecting the head to the trunk, allowing head mobility;

  • Trunk is the central part of the body, housing the vital organs and the main supporting structures;

  • Tail is the terminal appendage, playing a role in balance and communication;

  • Thoracic limb is the forelimb, used for locomotion and various motor functions;

  • Pelvic limb is the hindlimb, ensuring propulsion and stability during movement.
