Left testicular vein

Vena testicularis sinistra

Definition

Antoine Micheau

The left testicular vein is part of the venous drainage system of the testes.

Origin: The left testicular vein arises from the pampiniform plexus, a network of veins that surrounds the testicular artery within the spermatic cord.

Course: It ascends along the spermatic cord, enters the abdominal cavity via the inguinal canal, and continues retroperitoneally on the posterior abdominal wall.

Termination: Unlike the right testicular vein (whichdrains directly into the caudal vena cava), the left testicular vein drains into the left renal vein in humans, carnivores, rabbits and sometimes in horses.
