Mechanical carpus/metacarpus axis
Mechanical carpus/metacarpus axis
- Acronym: mCMA
Definition
The mechanical carpus/metacarpus axis is a landmark used to assess angular deformities of the carpus and provide guidance for corrections. It is determined from a craniocaudal radiograph or multiplanar reconstruction of the radius/ulna, carpus and metacarpus.
The mechanical carpus/metacarpus axis is defined by a line connecting the middle of the distal radial joint orientation line to the middle of the line joining the centers of the distal epiphyses of the 3rd and 4th metacarpals.
