定义
紧邻角膜上皮层下方的层（角膜上皮的底膜）具有某些特征，使部分解剖学家将其视为一独立膜，并将其命名为前界限层（前弹性层；弹性前层；前界层；鲍曼膜）。
然而，它与后弹性层不同，表现出纤维状结构的特征，且在与角膜其他层分离时，不具有相同的向内卷曲或发生断裂的倾向。它由极为紧密交织的纤维组成，与固有质中的纤维相似，但不含角膜小体。它可被视为固有质的致密部分。
