Anterior axillary line

Linea axillaris anterior

Definition

Anterior axillary line is an imaginary reference line which can be drawn on the anterior torso. It extends vertically downwards from the anterior axillary fold.

The anterior axillary line runs in parallel to the midaxillary and posterior axillary lines.

As part of the 12 lead ECG leads for recording the resting electrical activity of the heart, the V5 lead is placed on the anterior axillary line, at the same level as the V4 lead.
