Paravertebral line
Linea paravertebralis
Definition
Paravertebral line (a.k.a. paraspinal line) is an imaginary reference line, which exist lateral to the vertebral bodies. It extends vertically downwards marking the tips of transverse processes of the vertebra.
The paravertebral line on the left is seen on the chest XRay, where the mediastinal pleura reflects on to the posterior mediastinal structures, such as, the aorta and the esophagus.
The paravertebral line runs in parallel to the posterior median and axillary lines.
