Midclavicular line
Linea medioclavicularis
Definition
Midclavicular line is an important vertical reference line on the anterior chest wall. It connects the midclavicular point (superiorly) with the middle of the inguinal ligament (inferiorly).
As part of the 12 lead ECG leads for recording the resting electrical activity of the heart, the V4 lead is placed on the midclavicular line, in the 5th intercostal space.
