Attachment of inferior head of lateral pterygoid muscle

The superior head (superior belly) of the lateral pterygoid muscle arises from the lower part of the lateral surface of the great wing of the sphenoid and from the infratemporal crest. It insert on the anterior disk of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ).
