Spinocuneate fibers comprise the axonal projections of first-order sensory neurons of the dorsal column-medial lemniscal pathway, that extend from the posterior horns–above the T6 spinal level–and ascend ipsilaterally within the fasciculus cuneatus to relay sensory information from the upper half of the body. They transmit somatic sensory information pertaining to vibration, proprioception, and two-point discrimination. These fibers terminate in the medulla by synapsing at the cuneate nuclei. Please note that the spinocuneate fibers are the individual axons, while the fasciculus cuneatus is the tract or bundle that these fibers collectively form on the dorsal aspect of medulla oblongata.
