Fornix of lacrimal sac
Fornix sacci lacrimalis
Definition
The fornix of lacrimal sac is the blind upper expanded end of the lacrimal sac located superior to the opening of the common lacrimal canaliculus. It extends slightly above the medial palpebral ligament within the lacrimal fossa.
Function
The fornix acts as a small reservoir for tears before they pass into the body of the lacrimal sac and subsequently into the nasolacrimal duct.
