Granular foveolae
Foveolae granulares
- Eponym: Pacchioni
Definition
The granular foveolae refer to the multiple depressions and pits found on both sides of the groove for the superior sagittal sinus, found on the inner surface of the calvaria or skull cap. These granular foveolae indicate the presence of arachnoid granulations and are often observed seen near the lateral lacunae along the superior sagittal sinus. They play a role in the reabsorption of cerebrospinal fluid from the subarachnoid space into the dural venous sinuses, particularly the superior sagittal sinus.
