Impression for costoclavicular ligament

Impressio ligamenti costoclavicularis

Definition

Muhammad A. Javaid

A notable impression for costoclavicular ligament can be found on the inferior surface of the medial end of the clavicle, known as the rhomboid fossa. This concave impression serves as the attachment site for the costoclavicular ligament, which is the largest and most significant ligament of the sternoclavicular joint. The ligament extends from this fossa to the superior surface of the first rib, providing substantial stability to the sternoclavicular joint by limiting excessive movements and preventing dislocation.
