Inferior attachment

Insertio inferior

Definition

Muhammad A. Javaid

The terms superior and inferior attachments are used mainly to describe the ends of muscles located in the head, neck, and trunk, where the traditional terms origin and insertion (based on limb movement) may not apply clearly.

  • Superior attachment: The point of attachment that lies closer to the head (cranial end) of the body.

  • Inferior attachment: The point of attachment that lies closer to the feet (caudal end) of the body.
