Intermediate tendon of digastric muscle
Tendo intermedius musculi digastrici
Definition
The intermediate tendon of digastric muscle connects the anterior and posterior bellies of the digastric muscle.
It lies below the body of the mandible, superior to the hyoid bone, and is anchored to the hyoid by a fibrous loop (sling) derived from the deep cervical fascia. The tendon acts as a pulley, allowing coordinated movement of both bellies during depression of the mandible and elevation of the hyoid bone.
