Plexus intermesentericus
Definition
Intermesenteric plexus refers to a continuous meshwork of neurons and ganglia, which extends between the origins of superior and inferior mesenteric arteries from the abdominal aorta. It is situated on the anterolateral aspect of descending aorta and continues above with the superior mesenteric plexus. Below, the intermesetenric plexus is connected to the gonadal, inferior mesenteric, iliac and superior hypogastric plexuses.
The plexus contains parasympathetic motor neurons from the vagus nerve and sympathetic motor neurons which arrive via the lumbar splanchnic nerves.
