Intermuscular fasciae

Fasciae intermusculares

  • Synonym: Intermuscular fascia

Definition

The intermuscular septum of the extraocular muscles is a membrane located in the anterior portion of the orbit, composed by the expansions of the fascia covering the rectus muscles of the eyeball.

When viewed in the coronal plane, this membrane forms a ring that divides the orbital fat into the intraconal fat (intraconal space; central surgical space) and the extraconal fat (extraconal space; peripheral surgical space).
