Interphalangeal joint of thumb

The interphalangeal (IP) joint of the thumb is the hinge joint located between the proximal and distal phalanges of the thumb. It is the only interphalangeal joint of the thumb, as the thumb (unlike the other digits) has two phalanges rather than three, and therefore lacks separate proximal and distal interphalangeal joints.
