Definition

The proper and accessory collateral ligaments of the fingers provide radial-ulnar stability. These ligaments are confluent at their origin from the dorsal proximal phalangeal heads: The proper collateral ligament (PCL) inserts on the proximal phalanx, and the accessory collateral ligament (ACL) fans out to insert on the volar plate.
