Intertrochanteric crest
Crista intertrochanterica
Definition
The intertrochanteric crest is a smooth, rounded bony ridge that signifies the boundary between the posterior surface of the femoral neck and the shaft. It extends between the greater and lesser trochanters of the femur.
Positioned at the midpoint of the intertrochanteric crest is a notable tubercle known as the quadrate tubercle. This tubercle serves as the attachment site for the quadratus femoris muscle, which plays a role in the deep lateral rotation of the hip joint.
