Definition
Lateral calcaneal branches of sural nerve, arise from the sural nerve as it descends between the lateral malleolus and the calcaneum (on the lateral side of foot), en-route towards the base of the fifth toe. The lateral calcaneal branches provide somatic sensory innervation to the skin over the lateral side of the heel.
