Lateral cuneiform facet of navicular bone
Facies articularis cuneiforme laterale ossis navicularis
Definition
The lateral cuneiform facet of the navicular bone is the articular surface on the distal lateral aspect of the navicular that interfaces with the lateral cuneiform. This facet is typically described as bean-shaped on the right side and quadrilateral on the left, with significant variation in shape distribution between sides.
Quantitative cadaveric studies report the mean height and width of the lateral cuneiform facet as approximately 17.5 mm in height and 14.7 mm in width.
This facet forms part of the naviculocuneiform joint complex, which is critical for midfoot stability and is a consideration in surgical planning for medial column fusions and fixation.
