Left hepatic vein
Vena hepatica sinistra
Definition
The left hepatic vein runs in some parts of the fissure for ligamentum teres and in the umbilical fissure and drains into the inferior vena cava with a common trunk with the intermediate hepatic vein.
The left hepatic vein drains the segments II and III and partially the segment IV, and receive the umbilical vein within the umbilical fissure.
The left hepatic vein and the umbilical fissure form together a virtual vertical plane that delimitates the segment IV with the segments II and III for the hepatic segmentation.
