  • Synonym: Left vertebrocostal triangle
  • Eponym: Bochdalek

Definition

Antoine Micheau

The right lumbocostal triangle (Bochdalek's foramen; Bochdalek's triangle) is a defect in the posterior lateral part of diaphragm, between the costal and lumbar parts of the diaphragm. It is formed by the incomplete closure of the pericardioperitoneal canals by the pleuroperitoneal membrane.

This triangle is a potential weak spot in the diaphragm where herniation can occur.
