Maculae cribrosae

Definition

Maculae cribrosae are several minute holes on the wall of the vestibule for the passage of filaments of the vestibulocochlear nerve :

• Macula cribrosa superior: filaments from the utriculoampularry nerve, on the pyramid and adjoining part of the recessus ellipticus
• Macula cribrosa media: filaments of the saccular nerve at the anterior and inferior part of the spherical recess
• Macula cribrosa inferior: filaments from the posterior ampullary nerve, on the wall of posterior bony ampulla
