The medial marginal vein of the foot is a superficial vein that runs along the medial border of the foot. It originates from the medial aspect of the dorsal venous arch and courses anteriorly and proximally along the medial margin, passing in front of the medial malleolus. It then continues as the great saphenous vein, which ascends along the medial side of the leg and thigh.

The medial marginal vein lies between the skin and the deep fascia, within the subcutaneous tissue. It is closely associated with the saphenous nerve and is part of the venous network that drains the medial and dorsal aspects of the foot. The vein receives tributaries from the superficial veins of the sole and communicates with the deep venous system via perforating veins. Its course is consistent and serves as a reliable landmark for surgical approaches to the great saphenous vein.
