Musculi brachii
Definition
The muscles of arm are grouped into two compartments: the anterior compartment and the posterior compartment.
Anterior Compartment
The anterior compartment of the arm contains three muscles:
These muscles are primarily involved in flexion at the elbow and shoulder joints.
Posterior Compartment
The posterior compartment of the arm contains a single muscle: Triceps brachii. An additional muscle called the anconeus is considered to be a part of the triceps brachii. The triceps brachii has three heads:
This muscle is primarily responsible for the extension of the elbow joint.
