Definition
The muscles of back (dorsal muscles) include:
- Trapezius
- Latissimus dorsi
- Rhomboid major
- Rhomboid minor
- Levator scapulae
- Serratus posterior inferior
- Serratus posterior superior
- Muscles of back proper
- Erector spinae
- Spinotransversales
- Transversospinales
- Multifidus
- Rotatores
- Interspinales
- Intertransversarii
True back muscles are innervated by the dorsal rami of spinal nerves, whereas the muscles of the shoulder girdle are not.
