Muscles of back

Musculi dorsi

Definition

Antoine Micheau, Marjorie Champarou

The muscles of back are a group of muscular structures that are part of the axial musculature and extend from the head to the pelvis along the spine.

They play a essential role in maintaining posture, enabling locomotion, stabilizing the spine, and mobilizing the vertebral column (extension, flexion, lateral bending, and rotation).

These muscles are organized into several soverlapping layers.
