Pancreatic branches of posterior superior pancreaticoduodenal artery

Rami pancreatici arteriae pancreaticoduodenalis superioris posterioris

  • Related terms: Pancreatic branches

Definition

Antoine Micheau

As the posterior superior pancreaticoduodenal artery descends along the posterior aspect of the pancreatic head, it gives off small pancreatic branches (rami pancreatici) that penetrate the parenchyma of the pancreatic head to supply the right cephali portion of the pancreatic head. These branches are not completely buried within the pancreatic parenchyma but rather course between the fusion fascia of Treitz and the pancreatic tissue.
