Definition
The perpendicular plate of ethmoid bone is a thin, flattened structure that drops down vertically from the horizontal cribriform plate above it. It makes up the upper part of the nasal septum, splitting the nasal cavity into two separate chambers. At its lower edge, the perpendicular plate of ethmoid bone meets the vomer bone. This connection helps form the bony structure of the nasal septum, that supports the cartilage of the nose.
