Posterosuperior sublabral Recess

Recessus sublabralis posterosuperioris

Definition

Antoine Micheau

The posterosuperior sublabral recess of the hip joint is a normal anatomical variant characterized by a potential space or sulcus located between the acetabular labrum and the acetabular rim at the posterosuperior aspect of the acetabulum. This recess represents a partial, non-pathologic separation of the labrum from the underlying acetabular cartilage, without extension into the substance of the labrum or associated labral pathology. It is important to distinguish this normal variant from a labral tear, as the recess is smooth, well-circumscribed, and does not demonstrate features of labral degeneration or adjacent cartilage injury on imaging or arthroscopy.
