Definition

The pupillary margin is the inner border of the iris that delineates the pupil, forming its innermost circumference.

It should be distinguished from the inner (pupillary) zone of the iris, which refers to the region extending from the pupillary margin to the collarette. The collarette is an irregular, circular ridge located approximately 1.5 mm peripheral to the pupillary margin and serves as the anatomical boundary between the pupillary and ciliary zones of the iris.
