  • Synonym: Hepatic flexure

Definition

Muhammad A. Javaid

The right colic flexure (a.k.a. the hepatic flexure), is the bend between the ascending colon and the transverse colon. It is located in the right upper quadrant of the abdomen, inferior to the right lobe of the liver, from which it derives its name.

The hepatic flexure lies anterior to the inferior part of the right kidney and is typically positioned higher and less mobile than the left colic (splenic) flexure.
