Definition

Antoine Micheau

The right hypochondriac region is anatomically defined as the upper right section of the anterior abdominal wall, located lateral to the epigastric region and superior to the right lumbar (flank) region. It is bounded superiorly by the costal margin, medially by the midclavicular line, and laterally by the lateral abdominal wall. This region contains important structures such as the right lobe of the liver, gallbladder, hepatic flexure of the colon, and portions of the right kidney and adrenal gland. Clinical presentations involving pain or pathology in this region are commonly associated with hepatobiliary, gastrointestinal, or renal diseases, as described in the medical literature.
